Everywhere! The Static Showdown is a virtual worldwide hackathon; teams of up to four people can compete from anywhere with an internet connection. You can build your app while wearing your Ninja Turtles footie pajamas; we won't judge.
Anything that you want! We've seen everything from games to social networks to music synthesizers. The only limitations are that your app must be deployable to Firebase Hosting and you can't write any custom server-side code. Off-the-shelf backend services are 100% OK!
If you're familiar with the Rails Rumble or Node Knockout, like those! If you're not, teams will register before the competition and will have 48 hours to write their apps from scratch. While you can pre-plan what you're going to do, you can't create any digital assets (not even logos or other graphics) before the clock starts. After 48 hours a panel of judges will evaluate the apps and prizes will be awarded in various (yet to be announced) categories. Check out 2015 for old winners and prizes.
The Static Showdown is being put together by the Firebase team at Google. We think developers should concentrate on building awesome apps without worrying about the back-end. This hackathon is a fun way to test the limits of what can be done with a client-first paradigm.
Sure was! Divshot was acquired by Google and merged into Firebase Hosting in 2015. We really loved this hackathon and wanted to see it continue, and thankfully Firebase and developer events go together like Babel and ES2015!
We just opened pre-registration - scroll up and connect your GitHub account! We'll be in touch soon with more details.
That's not a question. But hey, sounds great! We're looking for prize sponsors, please get in touch via email if you're interested.
